Sacramento Roller Derby Finds a New Home
Sacramento, CA: Sacramento Roller Derby has found a permanent home after a multiyear search. Our organization has purchased a 26,000 sq/ft facility in the River District and it will be the first of its kind in the world.
This facility will be used to train over 150 athletes weekly as well as hosting public games and tournaments. It will allow Sacramento Roller Derby to grow its internationally-ranked adult and junior programs and will allow more fans to join us for our home games and tournaments.
Sacramento Roller Derby consists of six adult teams, two all-gender youth teams, and a crew of dedicated officials. We empower hundreds of community members through workshops that teach teamwork, perseverance, and taking up space through the sport of roller derby. This new facility will give us the opportunity to change even more lives in our community.
Sacramento Roller Derby’s Executive Director, Amanda Dunham, says, “This is a huge step not only for Sacramento Roller Derby but for women’s sports in Sacramento. We’ve been representing Sacramento at a competitive level for almost fifteen years and purchasing a facility allows us to grow our programs in ways not possible before. We want to show Sacramento we are a sport worthy of support like the other great teams in our city.”
The building provides a solid foundation, but there are still construction costs needed to turn it into the facility our community needs. This Big Day of Giving (May 7th), we are raising funds for these construction costs. Your donation is an investment in the future of women and women’s sports in Sacramento.
About Sacramento Roller Derby: Sacramento Roller Derby is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to the empowerment of youths, women, and the Sacramento community through acts of philanthropy and volunteerism, participation in public events and entertainment, and by fostering athletic competition and camaraderie in the sport of flat track roller derby at local, national, and international levels.
